We all get wrinkles, unless you're blessed with amazingly young looking skin, you probably will too. There are different kinds of wrinkles, and one kind is where your muscles cause your face to wrinkle. For example, the muscles that make you squint and cause lines of crow's feet, or the muscles which make you laugh or frown and cause lines around your mouth and nose. Even the muscles that you use when you furrow your brow and get those accordion like lines on your forehead. As we get older, our skin loses it's elasticity. This can cause wrinkles as well. When we smoke or expose ourselves to the sun too much, our skin can sag and become crumpled looking. This is the other kind of wrinkles.
How Botox Works:
Botox does help the first kind of wrinkles by simply interrupting nerve impulses to the face. This stops those crinkling furrows and frown lines, and even is effective against crow's feet. Since botox is actually something that can cause a serious form of food poisoning called botulism, it is expected that there will be some degree of disadvantages or side effects. While any sort of poisoning is rare, because Botox is so diluted, there are other side effects which can happen.
Possible Side Effects:
One thing that can happen is if your doctor is not very careful in certain areas around the eye, you can be prevented from opening your eyes all the way up. Similarly, if your doctor doesn't take care around your mouth in some areas, you can become partially paralyzed in that area, and this can cause drooling and other problems. While these sorts of problems are rare, it is best that you are informed of what can potentially go wrong. However, Botox is only temporary, and the effects will fade – so if you do encounter these problems, they are not permanent. Great doctors will rarely ever make a mistake, so take care that your doctor is very experienced and skilled with Botox injections.
It Will Not Last

This leads to another disadvantage to Botox; it is not permanent. This means that every six months or so, you have to go back and get more injections. It really depends on how dedicated you are to being wrinkle free as to whether you want to continue these shots. There are many advantages to Botox for people who really find wrinkles troubling and frustrating. The self confidence that it gives you is great, and it really does help people feel more confident and happier with their appearance. So, should you get Botox pumped into your face? Well, it depends on your own feelings. If the need for wrinkle free skin outweighs the disadvantages of Botox for you, by all means, go for it!
However, if you feel that the disadvantages and possible side effects are not worth the perfectly smooth face, then maybe you should try something else. There are many different alternatives such as diet, creams and lotions. While none of them will work as quickly and probably not as effectively as Botox, you always have other options.
