When you have decided to get breast implants, you face yet another decision. Should you get low, moderate or high profile implants? Before you say, "Yes, give me the biggest ones you have," it would be helpful to understand the reason for the different profiles. It doesn't just mean that you want smaller, medium or large breasts. You also have to take into account your frame, build and body shape. Here is a look of each type of profile and what body shape, frame and build is best for that profile.
Low Profile Breast Implants
Low profile breast implants generally mean that the breast will project at a lower amount than the moderate and high profiles. So, your breasts will most likely poke out less than someone with moderate and high profile breasts. While some may think this is a bad thing, it's not in the right patient. This is typically for very small framed women. If they have a narrow chest, implants with a wider base and that project further would not look natural. They would also probably be very uncomfortable for the patient. So, smaller women with narrower chests and petite body types are the best candidates for low profile breast implants. This doesn’t mean that their breasts will be small, either, only more suited to their frame.
Moderate Profile Breast Implants
Low moderate breast implants will generally project further and have a wider base than low profile breast implants. Typically, women that are of a medium frame and medium chest width would be prime candidates for moderate profile breast implants. This is especially true when the woman is looking for cleavage. This is because with a wider chest, wider implant bases will allow them to have cleavage and look natural. These types of implants on very petite women can look very unnatural, and they can look out of proportion.
High Profile Breast Implants

These are normally for larger framed women. If a patient has a wider chest and a larger frame, she is going to look very strange with very small, low profile breast implants. Especially if she wants cleavage – low profile breast implants that are placed in order to give a larger framed woman cleavage would leave spaces on either side of the breasts which looked empty. That is why high profile implants are needed. They have a wider base that fits larger frames better, and still allows cleavage while looking more natural and proportionate.
Your surgeon can explain more about the profiles to you, as well as tell you which category you fit under. One thing that can help you determine what profile you desire is to find a picture of a woman similar to your weight and height with the perfect size breasts in your eyes. You can show your doctor the pictures, and it will help him or her understand more of what size you desire. This is much more effective than telling them you want to be a C or D cup. Learn all you can about the profiles and your body size and frame, so that you can make an informed and the best decision for you.
