If you're an avid book reader, you'll want to pay close attention to the best ways to save money on books!  Some people spend thousands of dollars a year on books...they love them!  It's okay to love books, however if you love them that much then purchasing them at a discount or even getting them for free should interest you.  Here are a few helpful tips that will get you started:

Never buy a new release, put it on hold at the library -  There are a few places where you can get it cheaper, but it's best to wait.

Read reviews - It would be a terrible thing to spend $25 on a book only to find out it's horrible.

Find the classics online - Most of the literary canon is in the Public Domain, this means that the possibility of these books being available for download is very high.  It was suggested that you check places online like Project Gutenberg or a place called Daily Lit (They deliver smaller sized bits of information to your inbox).

Look for bargains - Places like garage sales, thrift stores and library book stores are great places to find books.  Many people do not realize what they have in their own garages or bas

ements and are willing to part with some very nice books.  Don't forget, if you find a nice amount of books at a garage sale, it's okay to negotiate for a better price.  There are also several online places that are popular and are known for selling pre-owned books, CD's and DVD's

Frequent your public library - You would be surprised at the type of books available at your public library.  You can also place books on hold and pick them up later.  Check to see if your local library has a web site.

Explore used book stores - I wouldn't hurt to check around your neighborhood for the smaller "mom and pop" type of bookstores.  Make sure they have a diverse inventory or you'll find yourself reading outdated magazines and used catalogs!

Buy only what you intend to read - Many a back closet is stocked with books that were "meant" to be read.  This is a waste of money if the books continue to go unread, make sure this doesn't happen to you.

Share - Pass books around to family and friends.  I know, many are not willing to do this especially if it is a book that they truly love.  They're worried that they will never see their precious book again.  If you are that concerned about a certain book...keep that one out of the circle.
