No, I'm not insinuating that your house may be dirty!  Think about it, we all have several unused items sitting in our garages, basements and yes, in the back of our closets.  Why not add some money to your costmetic surgery piggy bank by having a garage sale?  Yes, I know they can be a bother at times, but that is only if you are not organized.

How do you get organized for a garage sale?
There are several things you'll need to get you going:
A garage sale sign.
Depending on which state or city you live, a garage sale permit.
Stickers...lots of stickers!
Plastic bags
Loose change and cash
A long table with a table cloth
Hangers
A cleaning cloth
Colored lables to price the items you'll be selling

These are your basic items you'll be needing to have a garage sale.  The first thing you would want to do is to set the date and the time you'd like to have the sale.  Don't forget to advertise your sale in the local paper...some papers offer free ads.  You can even put up flyers in some grocery stores (always make sure to ask permission first).  Tell your neighbors, family and friends.  Finally, get busy and do some spring cleaning of your home (even i
f it's fall!)  Go through each room in the house and sort out what you have not used in a long time.  Chances are if you have to dig it out...you probably won't be using it anytime soon. Set all of these items aside into one corner.  Organize your items by categories; toys in one section, clothing, housewares, etc. into other sections. If you end up with items that are difficult to price, place them in a bag with similar items and offer them for one price.  Make sure you organize your clothing according to gender and size so folks won't have to pick through to find their size.

How to make those items fly out
Keep in mind, no one wants to buy dirty clothing, and they always look better if they're pressed.  If you have shoes, they should be arranged neatly on the floor.  It would be beneficial to wipe down any appliances you'd like to sell as well, try to make them look as shiny and close to new as possible. Place your fragile items on the table to prevent accidental breakage.  It would also help to have a friend or family member with you during the day of the sale.  Move your cars away from the area so your guests can walk about freely. Pricing reasonably cannot be stressed enough.  Many a garage sale has been left with items still standing due to overpricing.

Lastly, have fun, be willing to haggle, offer bargains and smile to yourself about that new look you'll soon have with all the money you've earned. Just remember to stay on course on your road to saving for cosmetic surgery!
