The last 50 years have seen cosmetic surgery go from something for the few and extremely wealthy, to something even struggling single moms consider.

Cosmetic Surgery History

Cosmetic surgery is a popular topic of discussion for many people these days. Celebrities consider it as a natural process in maintaining their physical beauty. It is a necessity for them because they earn their living through their physical splendor. It is difficult to influence people if a person does not look pleasing to the eyes. However, celebrities are not the only ones who turn to cosmetic surgery. Even ordinary people, as long as they can afford the expenses, resort to cosmetic surgery to make the changes they want on their bodies.

The last 50 years of Cosmetic Surgery

Plastic surgery has been around for more than 50 years. However, it did not become prominent across the United States until the 1960s. This was the time when plastic surgery started to invade America and increased it popularity. Later on new discoveries of substances like Silicone happened. By the 1970s, plastic surgery has already moved to the forefront in the medical profession. It was not found out that there are many other body parts that could benefit from a cosmetic surgery procedure. 1980 was the 50th year of plastic surgery since it was discovered. Beginning this decade, plastic surgery has become a normal procedure in many hospitals across the United States.

Certified plastic surgeons en masse
Because of the rise in popularity of plastic surgery, there were already more than 5000 certified plastic surgeons in the United States by the 1990s decade. Things were far from perfect, though. People still thought that plastic surgery was just a means of keeping one’s self beautiful and prolonging the aging process. It was deemed as a procedure for celebrities who want to maintain their class and outward appearance. It was often ignored that plastic surgery also played an important part in helping surgical patients who needed reconstructive assistance.

The public no longer raises their eyebrows
As years went on, and the 21st century came around, cosmetic surgery has become a stable profession. Aside from the surgical procedures, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons also started becoming active in political affairs. The public no longer raised their eyebrows to plastic surgery. Things have become better despite the fact that there is still room for improvement. Years from now, it is expected that cosmetic surgery procedures will take on another level of undertaking. It is no longer a question whether or not cosmetic surgeries are good for clients. Many have tried it and enjoyed the benefits it brings to them. People who find themselves physically inadequate can now feel good about themselves through the help of cosmetic surgeries.
