Thinking about having your breasts "done"? Well here are a few things that you should think about and consider before you go under the knife...
Many of us see the "after" picture of a beautiful woman with large buxum boobs smiling in a high gloss picture...everything looks fine in her world. But what if things don't always go that way? What are some of the things that can happen if things go wrong?
Damages nerves
Any surgery on the breast can, and often does damage nerves and reduce skin sensation. The amount of loss is unpredictable and the damage cannot be reversed. Attempts to reduce this effect have resulted in a larger surgical scar. Complete numbness of the nipple can be quite common. In a smaller number of cases the effect is the opposite...hypersensitivitiy, painful to the touch.
Keep in mind that there is no such thing as an implant with the resiliancy of a real breast. According to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), up to 9 percent of saline implants end up deflating within just three years. They also found that complications become more and more common for each year implants stay in the body. Another FDA study found that two thirds of the women who had an MRI on their breasts and no complaints of problems with their implants, actually had ruptured implants on one side. The rate is actually higher in implants that are 10 to 15 years old as opposed to those that were 20 years old, because the older ones were were made with thicker containers. In 21 percent of the women in the study, significant volumes of silicone were found to have migrated elsewhere in the body.
Though rare, it is not unknown for complications to be so severe that the breasts actually have to be amputated! The chest wall can be injured and your heart and lungs can be affected...basically, you can die. Sometimes cultures of microorganisms can be found growing inside saline implants when removed. Even the silicone gel ones sometimes gets some kind of mildewy looking stuff growing inside of them.
Weird looking Breasts?
A lot of implant jobs come out looking crooked, uneven or just simply weird-looking. Some women think that it's worth it just to have the size. They also have the potential of looking unnatural. Here are some annonymous quotes from actual breast augmentation patients:
"It changed my life negatively! I would trade anything for the smaller breasts that I had three years ago, and not this parody of a chest I have no
"My husband was against it 100%...They burst and leaked out my nipples and other parts of my body. The experience was horrible. Not only did I throw away money--we could [have] used $10,000. We had to spend money for surgery, removal of the implants, removal of all my breast tissue and reconstructive surgery...I have no feeling in my breast area. The process of having larger breasts has left my entire chest scarred and a deep but healing wound in my marriage".
"My wife got implants about 9 months ago, and I wish never would have done it. She had very small boobs (baby B's), and I really enjoyed them...I reluctantly agreed to her wanting to get bigger boobs. Now, 9 months later, one of them is as hard as a rock, never dropped, and feels like a softball covered in skin. Her boobs don't even bounce when she runs...it's like they're bolted to her ribcage (They just won't move at all)...as far as I'm concerned, the doctor lied to both of us. He said 'they'd feel real, look real, and you'll never know the difference'. He was full of crap!!! I'm at the point where I don't even want to touch her boobs...I was very worried about this whole process before she had it done, and now my greatest fears have come true".
"I saw plenty of fake boobs when I was modeling during graduate school in Dallas and they looked like balls hanging from skeletons. Pretty gross!"
"I am well aware that scientists believe implants do not cause Lupus, Chronic Fatigue, flu-like symptoms, or the aches and pains that I suffered from. I'm not a scientist, but I am an expert on me, so let me say it simply: I was healthy, I got implants, I got sick, I had them removed, and I got better...Even more upsetting for me than my own illness is that my infant daughter became sick, with symptoms that were similar to mine. Is it just a coincidence that she became ill after being nursed by a mother with broken silicone implants?"
These are real people!
Unfortunately, space does not permit the many other things that breast implants have done to ruin many lives. One thing to keep in mind is if you feel inadequate as a woman, the problem to address is in your head, not your chest. Self esteem first, cosmetics after! If you ignore that, you are doomed to disappointment. A lot of people who think that a change like this is going to fix their lives end up despondent and suicidal when they find they're still the same person with the same life. Getting chest surgery to improve your life is like getting a girdle to improve your eyesight...you're addressing the wrong problem.
